A rainy Sunday here in Brussels, and even though I've been wet more than dry today...no complaints.
On Friday, I spent the day in a 1:1 cultural training. The morning was very interesting as she taught me a lot about the history of Belgium. It was really beneficial for helping me better understand some of the division in this country. One of my goals is to get to know Brussels and its issues, so this background seemed like a start.
Saturday, I explored around my new neighborhood a bit and ventured into the hardware store to purchase those felt-pad things to put on the bottom of my furniture (which will hopefully maybe arrive this week)...after wandering the aisles for twenty minutes, I swallowed my pride and asked for help in english. The guy answered all in french--luckily I caught aisle huit (aisle 8). Mission accomplished.
Enjoyed checking out Nuit Blanche with some friends on Saturday evening. Think Detroit's Noel Night, only goes all night long, isn't snowing...and no kettle corn or carols with the Salvation Army band. Still, good times.
And like I said, pretty rainy day today. Did some measuring in the new apartment. There are no built-in closets, so I'll be on a mission to IKEA soon to purchase something to hang my clothes on (which will hopefully arrive this week.)
Have I mentioned that I'm hoping my shipment from Detroit will arrive this week?
Tomorrow there is a transit strike. Most of the office will work from home. Sadly, my hotel is across the street from the office--so what's my excuse? My feet are on strike? Alas. Reminds me of my time in Paris last November during their mega-transit strike. Crazy to think about that actually....a year ago, I was looking forward to visiting Sumreen in Europe...and now...
I LIVE HERE.
Yours truly,
me
