Oh sure, I’ve been on the continent for over 6 months, but I still make my fair share of goofs and gaffs.
Last Thursday, for example, I filled my dishwasher with dishsoap, not dishwasher soap. My French and Flemish language skills are sorely lacking and the words look so similar on the grocery store shelf--or maybe they don't--I don't actually know the words! Just so you know, the bubbles really do come pouring out of the machine. On the bright side, it’s a good way to get your kitchen floor nice and clean!
On Sunday, I was doing some laundry. (I’ll have to do an entire post on my laundry room—my very own laundry room, be still my beating heart—it’s beautiful.) The lovely frontloading machine had been running forever, was quiet and seemed like it must be ready to switch to the dryer. So I opened the door….Niagara Falls came gushing out. On the bright side, a great way to get your laundry room floor nice and clean without even trying.
And I’m sure I’m blocking out (or totally ignorant of) the other dozens of way I totally miss the way things work here on any given day. Keeps me humble!
I can’t miss, however, all the reminders of God’s outstanding goodness, faithfulness, kindness and love showered on me through sunrises and sunsets; through friends here and friends there; through giving and also being willing to take; and through standing on the promises I know to be true on good days and bad days.
Only time will tell, I suppose, what God is up to with my time here. Like a lot of things, I haven’t figured that out. But trust me when I say, there is no doubt He is here with me.

I lived with my first dishwashing machine sophmore year at College of Charleston. My roommates probably enjoyed both the bubbles and the very clean floor that resulted from my efforts to run the machine with dish soap. Glad you're having a fun time!
