Saturday was packed full.
Started the day by meeting my Mom at 9:30 AM for coffee and to strategize before a long-awaited shopping trip to pick up some odds-and-ends for the upcoming trip abroad. We checked out a new mall in the area where we had great success and much fun.
From there it was off to a baby shower/bon-voyage party for a couple of dear friends who are not only expecting their first child--a little girl due in December--but also getting ready to move to Iowa (how do you like that Dick?). It was so fun to see all the super-cute baby stuff and wish them well.
Then over to the Mahrle's (my best friends) for a little visit. After a warm welcome from Macky (their 2-year old), Rachel and I headed down to the basement where we could chit-chat in actual sentences (as opposed to soundbites.) She also gave me a spur of moment trim and hi-lite touch-up. Then a little more QT with the babies. Played "guys" with Macky. Sang "la-di-la-da" with Jed. Visited with little Lucy.
Next stop was the halloween/wedding reception for Jessy and Bob. These are good people and it was such a privilege to help them celebrate the start of an all new adventure! It was also so fun to see some good friends, like Batman and Catwoman, there.
Just walked in the door in time to catch the tail end of Game 3 of the World Series. It's the bottom of the 8th and the Red Sox are ahead by 4. Good stuff.
A few times today I was headed for a meltdown. While I was enjoying everything I was doing, in the back of my head the long list of chores, laundry, and other responsibilities threatened to send me into a tailspin. There are towels in the dryer that have needed folding for days. The dishwasher needs emptying. A week's worth of mail sit on the counter waiting to sorted.
But driving home from Jessy and Bob's party, God reminded me how blessed I am to have the opportunities to be with my family and friends as we walk through life together.
The chores will get done. Tomorrow. Thank you Father for today. Thank you for blessing the lives of my friends. And for blessing me with them.
