Summer jobs

During college, I spent two summers working on a vegetable and flower farm near my hometown. It wasn't always glamorous work, but it was a unique opportunity to play in a very large garden.

One of my favorite memories is picking lavender in the early morning hours. Then we'd spend the afternoon up in the attic of the barn hanging the bunches to dry. Ever since, I've been smitten with the little purple flower and its divine smell.

Tomorrow morning, I'll hop a train with some friends to Avignon, in the south of France, where we'll pick up a car and explore the motherland of lavender, Provence. What a gift!
