Surprise

Several summers ago, my friend Sumreen and I drove across the U.S. together. It was a ridiculously good time…though slightly dangerous to put two mild over-achievers in the car together and say “go!”

One day we hit three national parks….starting with sunrise at the Grand Canyon, then sunset at Bryce Canyon and a death-defying dark drive through Zion.

There was a pop song getting some airtime called “Nothing to say…” I so much wanted this song to ‘mark’ my time driving through the Southwest…but instead it was some combination of Tom Petty and mostly conversations (and water-drinking contests) with Sumreen.

So, it’s kinda odd that this song, which I haven’t heard in years, keeps popping into my head here in Brussels. God keeps catching me off guard here—in the most wonderful ways. And while part of me is dying to understand what it all means and, on a bad day, protect myself from it; the other part of me is just stuck standing silent with heart wide-open in adoration and, on a good day, trust.
