Sand in my shoes

Last week, Sumreen and I flew from Paris to Tunis for a super fun adventure around the tiny North African country of Tunisia (no, not Indonesia, Mom!). There are plenty of pictures of the many beautiful things we saw while exploring, but as usual, they only tell half the story. The real gems were the many experiences that can’t adequately be captured on film. For example, getting nudged off the train in Carthage by a gentle old woman who could tell this American didn’t know the train wasn’t going to come to a complete stop! Or the driver of the shared van we took to Hammamet who played a couple Bob Marley and Fugees songs for us as a ‘welcome aboard.’ Then there was socially awkward English man who just retired and was making his first trip out of the UK. The first day, we just watched him scribble furiously in his travel journal, but after lunch the second day, we had so many shared experiences that he offered us a date (the kind you eat, Mom!). And, of course, our amazing guide who told us—your attention please—all about his country and his people. Once again, the world became a bigger, smaller place.
