Dear John

I just ‘broke up’ with my new guitar teacher over email. Classy, huh? Nice enough guy, but was ‘just not that into’ it. Steven and Antigoni raised the bar high as far as teachers go…and quite frankly, my energies are focused, for better or worse, on other things right now. (I might also want to change styles—shhhhh…..please don’t tell Steven!) Not really change permanently, but maybe just start to figure out how to play Chris Tomlin chords along with Carulli waltzes!

I’ve been sticking pretty close to home in Brussels these days, yet still haven’t managed to get the last of the suitcases unpacked—they hide away in the guest room so quietly! My Mom will arrive for the Christmas holidays in mid-December, so I need to get the suitcases out of there and get a guest bed in there—soon!

Even though I haven’t been traveling much, I have been enjoying life in Brussels, which has included lots of great hang time with friends. One of the best days was last Saturday for Serve the City. You may recall Serve the City stories from April, when I had just arrived, and then again in July. And the November day was perhaps the best day yet—if it is possible to rank them!

Once again, there were projects all over the city with many many volunteers coming together to spread hope and love in tangible ways. We spent time with friends from Foyer Selah, a refugee center in the city center. As usual, I’m not sure who got more out of the day! Take, for example, the fact that my command of the Mongolian language may now exceed my command of French. (Not hard to do, I suppose, since I still haven’t started lessons.)

The day ended with all the volunteers and many of our new friends from the day gathering together for a delightful meal and a rocking band. It was such a joy! And delish! (For those of you at Genesis—imagine Catherine and Drew’s best Core Night on crack—and you’d get close to approaching the loveliness and yummyness of the evening.)
