I'm laughing before I even start typing...thinking about that first day in Madrid. Or more precisely, how we almost didn't make it to our first day in Madrid. I'll save that story for another day--suffice to say we crossed a five-lane-round-about in the middle of Paris rush hour traffic with all our luggage and then thanked the fine folks at Air Comet for letting us on the plane with one minute to spare.

After arriving in Madrid, we had a relaxing lunch with
Sumreen's friend Sherry, who was so welcoming and generous in opening her home to us. We also walked around a lovely shopping district and visited the Plaza
de Colon with its big monument to none other than Christopher Columbus.

Around 7 o'clock,
Sumreen and I decided to just do some quick sightseeing before calling it a day. Read: 4 hours and a walking tour that had us taking in half the sights of Madrid--sometimes twice!

So, we decided to stop for some
churros and hot chocolate. We had grown used to the outrageous prices in Paris that made the reasonable prices in Madrid seem like we had lost something in translation. Oh well, we bellied up to the counter, ordered our
churros y chocolate and hot chocolates and found a seat.

The waiter came over to us with a rather puzzled expression...and four cups of hot chocolate. All for us. Between the language barrier and the fact that in Paris you couldn't even look at a cup of hot chocolate for less than 5 Euro...well, gluttons we were, but we laughed and enjoyed every bite.
