Patience is a Virtue

There’s about to be a baby boom in my little circle of friends. Currently, I’m not so patiently awaiting the arrival of Sweet Pea, child of Shawna and Jay who live in Golden, Colorado.

Shawna and I became friends when we lived in Washington, DC. We had a wonderful network of friends from NRDC, where we worked, including folks like Gina, Peter, Patricio, Lynn, Karen and others. Our adventures—from pottery painting to Pop-tart breaks—made living and working in DC fun and memorable. Shawna also introduced me to the great state of Maine—with several trips to Portland and her family’s lovely lake cottage.

(And I won't mention the time she made me climb a glacier while I was almost bleeding to death from a gash on my knee after nearly falling off a mountain we had just climbed...)

More importantly, we’ve shared a close friendship built on laughter and love. Shawna has a beautiful heart and is always willing to listen, offer advice if necessary, or just giggle at the drama one can create for oneself. She’s going to make an awesome mama!

Jay is Shawna’s husband. He’s a really cool, interesting guy who loves trees and fish (a lot!) He is also a perfect specimen of an only-child, much like me. Often I find myself defending his only-child ways to Shawna, who doesn’t always understand.

Sweet Pea could come at any minute. In fact, I just called Shawna and she didn’t answer her mobile…is she having a baby? I’ll keep you posted.
