Tonight I heard a story of a son who ran away with his inheritance. He squandered it and came crawling back home hoping his father would show some mercy. He couldn't have known that his father was looking for him every day, hoping for a day when his lost son might return. When the father saw his son, it was a time of jubilee.
It's a parable. A story of God's love for us--a love so deep and so wide that nothing we could do will ever separate us from Him. God is constantly scanning the horizon looking for us and waiting to rejoice over our homecoming.
I'm telling you all this because tonight I also ran into an old friend. A friend I probably hadn't seen in over a year. It was so awesome to see her and hear a bit about what's going on in her life. She's working on a PhD. She's trying to adopt a baby from Guatemala. And she is doing her best to live life to the fullest, despite some roadblocks. It was so wonderful to see her. It has made my heart so happy. I feel like dancing.
So if this is how little me feels just reconnecting with an old friend after a year. Can you imagine the kind of rejoicing God does over us? Too much for my tiny mind to comprehend. And that's what I love about it.
p.s. Last night there was some dancing in the streets at Dally in the Alley.
