Yesterday morning I was stomping off to the office anticipating a ‘bad day’…and my suspicions seemed to be confirmed when I tried to deposit my coins into the PeopleMover turnstile. My dimes and nickels were rejected.
Just great. I didn’t have any other money on me (unless you count the Euro coins that float around in my change purse)…so I swallowed my pride and asked a gentleman on the other side if he could swap me a quarter for my dimes and nickels. As we tried different combinations of coins, the train pulled up and he threw two brand-new quarters into my hands and said ‘hurry…so you can make this train…’ The coins were accepted and I ran to jump on the train shouting ‘wait…I want to pay you back…’ Unfortunately, the doors shut and the gentleman just waved and smiled. I didn’t mind waiting for the next train because it gave me a moment to feel gratitude for this gentleman’s kindness.
Then I realized that I now had an ‘extra’ fifty-cents…exactly what I needed several hours later when I had to run back to get my car and zip out to a meeting. It spared me from having to go to the ATM, get change, etc…little stuff in the grand scheme of things, but I was sorta on the edge yesterday. And that’s when I thanked God for his always sufficient provision…he provides enough for each day. In this case, a ride on the PeopleMover.
