I know a lot of people have issues with Mitch Albom...and I get that...sometimes his writing is super cheese-o-rific....sometimes his ego is a little too big. But I still like him. He puts a little heart into last night’s sports scores in a way that helps a girl, growing up in a sports town, care. Plus, he's hung tight to Detroit even after he made it big and could have moved on to greener, easier pastures.I'm excited about his new book on faith. So my Mom sent over the links to a few articles about the release party that was held at the Fox Theatre last week. My favorite is the column by Mitch talking about how special it was to have Ernie Harwell at the event.
Ernie, the longtime voice of Tigers baseball on WJR, recently announced that he is dying from untreatable cancer. And his reaction to this news points squarely to where gets his hope.
Back in 1984, Al Ackerman, another Tigers broadcaster, coined the phrase ‘Bless you, boys', during the Tigers run to win the World Series. Along those lines, I'll join countless others I'm sure, in saying: Bless you, Ernie.
And no doubt joining Ernie in saying, Go Tigers!
