I’m sticking with Detroit.

Started the day at a wonderful breakfast where several legendary Detroiters were honored for their commitment to the Big D—as in greater Detroit.

Neal Shine was remembered for his vision for stronger ties among all metro communities during his 45-year career with the Detroit Free Press where he always promoted his love for Detroit.

Marian and Mike Ilitch, who among other things own two of my favorite teams, the Red Wings and the Tigers, were recognized for their investments in sports and entertainment facilities that draw people from around the region to Detroit.

Dave Bing, former Pistons star who turned his post-NBA life towards helping others, was honored for his investments in Detroit and the next generation.

My personal hero, Eleanor Josaitis, co-founder of Focus: HOPE, was honored for dedicating her life to addressing racial and social injustices that are impediments to regional cooperation.

It was inspiring to be in the same room as these local legends--these shining lights. They are some of the true pioneers who have never turned their backs on Detroit and have tirelessly paved the way for our generation to step into the challenges and opportunities for our region.
