Drink up life

On Sunday I went to a recital by the mezzo-soprano who will sing the alto solos at our upcoming Handel’s Messiah performances. She sang some lovely pieces with the accompaniment of the Ambassador Chamber Players and others.

In particular, she sang a piece composed by Carmen, our Fort Street Chorale accompanist. He wrote The Foxglove’s Door in memory of a friend who battled brain cancer. In her honor, Carmen set a series of Emily Dickinson poems to music. It was really quite moving.

It is reported that Martin Luther said, “Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.”

As usual, I'm in agreement with Dr. Luther.
