I found myself expressing this to a friend over lunch…and thought I should explain the ‘taping up’ post with this wee-clarification.
By taping up, I don’t mean bottling it up. I don’t mean fake optimism. I don’t mean a rose-colored existence.
Some stuff sucks right now. Royally. Sometimes I have aches that actually hurt. Sometimes I find myself whimpering ‘it wasn’t supposed to be this way.’ Sometimes I am just plain sad, discouraged and annoyed.
I totally resonated with and re-tweeted this from MattChandler74 RT @RickWarren:
Optimism says “It’s not so bad!” Hope admits “Yes, it’s bad. Really bad. But I still believe & trust in God!"
Hope isn’t optimism. Optimism often denies reality. Hope never does. Optimism is positive thinking; hope is passionate trust.
What lets me tape up is a true, deep, real hope that God’s got his hand on me. (You too.) And, much like my little Spock-foot, I need the extra support of the tape while I wander through this journey.

Amen, sister!!
but taping up will also help you to see the good in things that God intended, so it's not just a coping method.
