The wind is in from Africa

Sorry for the silent treatment. Returned late last week from really amazing, awesome trip to Africa. I’m still wrapping my brain around the adventure, but that’s no excuse for not sharing a story or photo with you in the meantime.

First, thanks so much for all the encouragement, prayer and financial support. It was so cool to know many of you were cheering us on from Detroit, Brussels, New York, Madison, Sydney, Chicago, Washington, Greensboro and so on!

Gosh. What to say?

Well, my relationship to water has probably forever changed. I’m no stranger to water issues—I mean, I worked at the Clean Water Network for goodness sakes! But I’d never really been anywhere where access to clean water was more a luxury than basic human right. I’d never felt the scarcity of clean water to drink like I felt some days on our journey. So experiencing first-hand the impact of a well that brings clean, cool water to the surface filled my heart with joy. The spiritual significance of all of the living water symbolism has not been lost on me either, so you might expect further musings on this topic.

Of course, the adventure part of the trip was big fun. And while we didn’t see the ‘Big 5’ (lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos, and giraffes), we did see what I like to call the ‘Humble 5’ (zebras, skinny cows, penguins, ostriches, and donkeys). Plus, I pet a cheetah!

Friendships were developed and deepened. Laughter was abundant. Dreams were ignited.

And I went to South Africa! No need to say more, really! (But don’t worry…I will!)
