Things going on around here

I feel like writing ‘not much going on around here.’ But that’s not exactly true. Yet, in other ways, it is totally true as things have a remarkable rhythm here that seems pretty normal. Here are a few stories from last week.

Last Thursday, some sweet friends and I enjoyed pizza and ice cream in the sunshine before strolling to a salon for a new haircut and color. I’m so lucky to always have a friend around who can cut my hair. BFF Rachie in the States, and now fun friend Vir here in Brussels. Vir went to town and I’ve got a sassy short cut in a gorgeous chocolate brown. Fun!

Saturday was Serve the City day here in Brussels. I love Serve the City. It’s for sure in my Top-5 things about Brussels list…right up there with chocolate and the Grand Place. As usual, there were many outstanding projects to choose from….and I helped prepare the end of day picnic for volunteers and friends from the day. In grad school, I loved planning parties with Briony. She was the party planning queen, and I, her mere apprentice. One thing we figured out by our second year was that we could pretty safely cut the quantity of food we were planning in half and still have more than enough. I couldn’t help but think of Bri last week as I worked with some friends to pull the party together. We planned food for ~120 (whatever that means!) and served 160-180…probably close to 200 people, if you count the doggie bags we packed up (how very American!). Good times!
Pilates is rolling along like a ball….haha…get it? Rolling like a ball? (Anyone who does pilates is surely laughing right now.) And I’m pretending I play Ultimate Frisbee. (In actuality, I played a sorta-game once with friends, tossed around a Frisbee another time…and the Brussels weather has put the kibosh on my plans to join another friend the past two Tuesdays….but I’m attracted by the thought of leaping and jumping in green spaces. If I actually catch a Frisbee too…bonus!)

This week starts a wee-bit of travel. First to a friend’s wedding in Macedonia. And then to meet up with a friend for adventures in Budapest, Vienna and Prague. Such a gift. All of this.

Guess there is actually a lot going on around here….in my days, in my heart, in my thoughts, and in my relationships. Thanks for letting me share some of it here with you! xox
