Paczki Day!

I enjoy all the silly fun traditions we have in Detroit…traditions we’ve borrowed from the cultures that have come to the D and made it home.

For example, today is Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras. The day before Lent starts. We celebrate it as Paczki Day, thanks to our Polish neighbors in Hamtramck. What’s a paczki? Some try to call it a ‘jelly donut’------but it is so much more………..more of everything………more fat…….more eggs………..more sugar! Good times.

A colleague who lives in Hamtown brought several boxes of the delectable treats in today. I have a blueberry one sitting at my desk….just the smell is enough to send me into a sugar-coma.

Next up? Corktown St. Patrick’s Day madness in March. Thankfully it starts with a 5k run!

My Polish friend had us over for these today!!! I love that you blogged about it tonight, cuz I couldn't, for the life of me, remember how she spelled the darn things ;) Happy "donut" day :)
